3. Save on train fares with a railcard

Whatever your age you can get a railcard.

The most well-known are the 16-25, 26-30 and Senior (over 60) railcards that can save you a third off your ticket.

The Two Together Railcard that any adult and a friend or family member can get can save you a third off most rail fares when travelling together, or a Family and Friends Railcard, where adults get a third off and kids get 60% off most fares.

If travelling in the south-east, a Network Railcard offers similar discounts.

Cards can be bought online.

4. Choose your next credit card carefully

If you already have credit card debts, consider transferring that debt to an interest-free balance transfer credit card, so you’re not paying expensive interest and can focus on paying back the money you owe.

A cashback or rewards credit card will give you something back if you have no card debt.

By switching banks you may be able to get a cheaper overdrafts, higher interest and better customer service.

It’s possible you may also make money if a switching bonus is offered by the bank you move to.

Virgin Money is (currently 3/2021) offering 15 free bottles of wine from Virgin Wines (valued at £180).

Using the switching service means it should take only seven working days to switch you over from your old account once the new account is opened.
